Fidelity security guard and suspect killed during failed cash-in-transit heist at KFC outlet in Gqeberha

A Fidelity security guard, as well as a suspected robber, was killed during a failed cash-in-transit heist at a KFC outlet on Commercial Road, Sidwell, Gqeberha, this morning, December 30.

One suspect was arrested and the Hawks are currently on the hunt for their accomplices who are still at large.

Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, a spokesperson for the Hawks, confirmed that Fidelity security guards were at the food outlet to collect cash when they were allegedly ambushed by unknown armed suspects.

“During the incident, a shootout ensued between security guards and the suspects, where one security guard was reportedly fatally wounded.”

According to W.O. Mhlakuvana, it is alleged that one suspect was also fatally wounded. The police apprehended one suspect at the scene, while an unknown number of other suspects reportedly fled the scene. No cash or firearms were reportedly taken.

“More suspects are at large, and the investigation is underway. Anyone with information please contact the investigating officer on 0795089756 or the nearest police station,” said W.O. Mhlakuvana.

The Eastern Cape Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks, Brigadier Fernando Luis, is appealing to the public to assist with information.
