Schools rugby in Nelson Mandela Bay returned with a bang after the July holidays and more thrilling encounters are on the way.
This past Saturday, all eyes were on the battle of Gqeberha when Framesby was at home against Grey in wet and cold conditions.
It was a hard-fought 14-10 victory for Framesby, the first time since 2011 that they got the better of Grey.
For both sides it doesn’t get any easier as huge challenges await them this coming Saturday.
The Grey supporters weren’t happy with the tentative performance against Framesby and will expect a better effort against the mighty Grey College in Bloemfontein.
Although a surprise victory by Grey isn’t expected, the supporters would be happy to see some more urgency and energy from the Bay side.
Framesby will again have home advantage when they take on HTS Drostdy (Worcester), in what should be an interesting match.
Home advantage will indeed be a huge factor as the Drostdy boys are doing a lot of travelling lately.
It was a very early start for them last Saturday when they took on Oakdale in Riversdale.
Oakdale just got home, 22-20 and Drostdy showed that Framesby will have to be at their best to stay on the winning path.
Nico Malan is at home in Humansdorp, against Despatch, on Saturday, after being involved in a real humdinger against Kingswood College in Makhanda.
The match could have gone either way. Kingswood was leading 12-7 at half-time but Nico Malan scored in the final seconds of the game to win 21-17.
Brandwag will be travelling to Mossel Bay to play against Punt and had an outing against Ithembelihle in Kariega to get back into shape.
Keanu Botha (flanker) and Ruan Meyer (wing) scored a brace each as Brandwag ran in nine tries.
