The Nelson Mandela Bay school rugby season is in its final stretch but there are still plenty of interesting matches ahead.
Towards the end of the season, many schools host sevens tournaments and a new exciting one will get underway in Gqeberha this coming Saturday.
Grey High will host the first leg of the inaugural Frogfoot Schools 7s Tournament for u/17-players.
Ten legs of the tournament will take place at various schools around the country, with the final being played on November 5 at Loftus in Pretoria. The tournament is aiming at providing another platform for talented sevens players to show and develop their skills in this format of the game. Although the focus will be on sevens rugby, the organisers want these days to be a festive occasion with fun activities and entertainment sections.
The action should be fast and furious at the Grey-fields and hopefully just as thrilling as the match last Saturday on the Kolisi Field between Grey and Selborne College.
What an absolute humdinger this was and the result could have gone either way. The home team scored the winning try in the dying minutes to make the final score 32-26.
Brandwag was also involved in a close affair and just got home 24-19 against Bergsig. A match to look forward to is Brandwag taking on Pearson in Gqeberha on Saturday.
Some of the playing conditions weren’t that easy on wet fields this past weekend. This was the situation at Graeme College in Makhanda, where the home side did very well to adjust and beat Muir College 27-3. Graeme College scored five tries.
Graeme College will be back at home this coming Saturday in what should be an entertaining fixture against Nico Malan.
Pearson did very well in their annual derby with Parel Vallei in Somerset West, scoring five tries in the 29-13 victory. Loose forwards, Kuhle Songelwa and JP Lategan, were the stars for Pearson.
Framesby will be at home in Gqeberha, after a nightmare trip to George, where they were completely outplayed by the classy Outeniqua outfit. Outeniqua ran in 11 tries and Framesby had no answer to the powerful running game of the hosts.
Home advantage will help but Framesby faces another tough match against Oakdale.
