THE voices of youth will start the Alliance Francaise Richmond Hill Street Music Festival on a happy and inspirational note on September 3.
It is not often that the general public has the opportunity to enjoy 10 of the top school choirs in one venue, and festival organiser, Bev van Eck, has made this initiative a passion priority for this year’s event.
“I believe that this is a wonderful way to start the music festival and it will complement the many other awesome family activities in the first half of the day,” she said.
The choir programme will allow festival attendees to experience the Westering High School’s Choir, aptly known as Optima Voices.
The choir was invited to the finals of the ATKV Applous Choir Competition and to the finals of Sing in Harmonie, a Kyknet choir competition.
Choir director, Elbé Coetzee, will introduce an interesting and vibrant repertoire this year. The choir consists of 70 committed learners, from Grades 8 to 12 who are thrilled to be performing again.
The youth choirs who will thrill attendees include; Uitenhage High School Choir, Winterberg Primary School Choir, Gelvendale High School Choir, HH Academy Chorale, Siyakhula Cultural Dance Group, Alexander Road High School Choir, and the Liquorice All Sorts.
Performances start from 10:30 to 15:30 on the corner of St Philip Street and Stanley Street.
Tickets are available at www.afportelizabeth.com or at the entrance for R30 (adults) and R10 (scholars) with children under that age of 12 free. No cash will be accepted at the gates and only cards can be used to purchase tickets on the day.
Food trucks and craft stands will be available.
