Preparing the St George’s Park Cricket Stadium grounds and pitches for a total of 14 test matches, 31 ODIs, four T20 internationals and a staggering number of domestic matches not out – that is the score after 25 years for head curator, Adrian Carter, and ground staff member, Monde Ludwabe.

The two joined the team at the St George’s Park Cricket Stadium in August 1997.

“This is a feat not many in the modern era of pitch preparation have achieved,” said Eastern Province Cricket (EPC) chief executive officer, Eugene Jacobs.

Carter said that there had been a number of highlights over the last 25 years. “I think the one that has stood out most is the opportunity to work at Lords and to work with Peter Muzzel as a consultant for the inaugural IPL held in Mumbai in 2008.”

Another significant milestone was celebrated by assistant accountant, Zine Mekuto, who has been with EPC for 15 years. Jacob described Mekuto as a keen runner and fitness fanatic who has been a stalwart in the finance department. “It takes a great team to stage events at St George’s Park and the current number of long service awards is a testimony to the dedication and commitment from staff in all areas.”

Congratulating the staff, Jacobs said, “A special mention must go to Adi and Monde on their 25 years of loyal and dedicated service to the company.

“It is indeed a great honour to pay tribute to these fine gentlemen who have worked tirelessly for many years.”

The following staff members celebrated five years with EPC:

  • Dr Mark Williams (Head Mega Sportz)
  • Terance Primo (stadium manager)
  • Monde Nelani (ground staff)
  • Liezel Piedt (operations)
  • Andre du Plessis (coaching)
  • William Grootboom (maintenance)
  • Pieter January (maintenance)
