THIS month sees the launch of the new format Urban Discovery fun run, which will take you through the newly renovated parts of Gqeberha’s central business district.

The event will start from in front of the popular Remo’s Italian Restaurant in Baakens Valley.

From there, runners will head out along the 5km route, where they will pass by several historic landmarks, many of which have been restored or upgraded for business use.

Don’t be fooled, however, as this route is a force to be reckoned with.

With the steepest slopes in town and a “King of the Hill” competition runners won’t be able to take it easy.

The biggest reason for bringing runners together on Sunday, September 18, for this celebration of the MBDA’s urban renewal, is in support of a local charity.

All funds raised will be donated to those who need it most at Cheshire Homes.

In caring for those injured, less fortunate and in dire need of help, Cheshire Homes requires support from many different avenues.

Participants donating to their cause will receive a goodie-bag relative to their donation.

Participants who donate more will also receive up to a seven-minute head start in the race. And if financial support is out of the question, clothes, appliances or any usable household items are always a welcome donation for those at the home.

After competitors make their way up to Fort Frederick and back down, prize giving for the event will take place around 11:15 in Chicky’s Yard, with spot prizes and thank you’s, and where those who have contributed will be recognised for their efforts.
