A ‘noisy’ and armed suspect has been taken in for questioning by police, after he was caught in the act by an armed response officer recently in Gqeberha.

“Our officer was doing patrols along Kempston Road in the early morning hours recently when he heard loud noises coming from a medical practice building along the road. He called for backup before approaching the building in question,” explained Charnel Hattingh, Head of Communications and Marketing for Fidelity ADT.

The officers proceeded to approach the building and they encountered an unknown suspect on the property. He was ordered to surrender and cooperate with the instructions given by the two armed response officers.

“The man gave his cooperation and informed our officers that he had a dangerous weapon in his possession. The suspect was detained and handed over to the police so that they could question him about possible involvement with other incidents,” said Hattingh.

“Well done to our officer for being alert to the noises he heard. The customer later asked that extra patrols be deployed in the area and declined to press charges against the alleged suspect.”

Meanwhile in an unrelated incident in Kariega, another suspect was arrested after a recent alleged housebreaking incident.

“We sent an armed response officer to respond to an alarm signal in Lavender Crescent. The officer found the back door of the house open and then noticed an unknown person walking out the door with housebreaking implements in his possession. Copper pipes were also found outside the premises which the customer confirmed later was his property.”

Hattingh said that this suspect was taken into custody by police.
