Police officials in Nelson Mandela Bay continued with their endeavours to rid the streets of illegal drugs over the weekend.

Police officials in Nelson Mandela Bay arrested two suspects over the weekend for dealing in illegal drugs. 

During the first incident, on Friday, 14 October at about 18:00 information was received, which was immediately followed up by the Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit and the Station Commander of SAPS Swartkops, Lt Col John Perils.

According to Captain Gerda Swart, police spokesperson, they proceeded to a residence in Gca Ndlovini Street, Wells Estate and found a 39-year-old man busy cutting crystal meth.

“The suspect was arrested on the spot on a charge of illegal possession of drugs. A total of 46 mandrax tablets, 27 bags containing methcathinone (CAT), 181 dagga zolls, eight bags of tik and cash (R890) were confiscated. The estimated value of the drugs amounts to R17 000,” she said.

In the second, unrelated incident on Friday at about 23:00, SAPS Public Order Police members successfully executed a search warrant during an intelligence driven operation in Mthunzi Street, Ikamvelihle.

“Members confiscated 245 mandrax tablets, 39g tik, a scale and medication. The value of the drugs were estimated to be worth more than R27 400. A 35-year-old man was detained on a charge of dealing in drugs.” 

The two men are due to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s court on Monday, 17 October on the respective charges.
