A matric learner has died due to drowning at the Willows Resort in Nelson Mandela Bay, yesterday, October 23.

According to Jonathan Tufts, NSRI Gqeberha deputy station
commander, at 15:21 the NSRI Gqeberha duty
crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at
Willows Grove Resort tidal pool.

“On arrival on the scene
rescue swimmers entered the water to search for a missing 18-year-old matric learner reported to be missing in the tidal pool. We believe that another two casualties, fellow learners of a school outing, had
managed to exit the water and they were not injured. Locals from the resort were assisting in a search,” Tufts said.

NSRI and Coastal Water
Rescue swimmers conducted sweeping line free dive search efforts.

“During a search the body of the teenager was located and recovered from
the water.”

At approximately 16:30 the police arrived on the scene when they found paramedics attempting to resuscitate the 18-year-old Bulela Tisane, but he was declared dead.

Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that no foul play is suspected and an inquest docket has been opened.

“The investigation is continuing,” she said.
