An alleged burglar has been shot dead by a security official after he reportedly broke into and vandalised a flat in South End.
The suspect, who is still unknown, allegedly gained entry into the first floor flat in Gladstone Road. After vandalising the place and throwing items out of the building, he set the flat alight.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that police were alerted about a shooting and flat on fire at approximately 17:45 on Monday evening.
“On arrival police found the body of an unknown male lying outside. A private security was at the scene. The owner of the flat also arrived. The suspect allegedly jumped through the window and landed on the ground where he then picked up a shard of glass and lunged towards one of the security officials. He was fatally wounded by the official,” Naidu explained.
Cases of housebreaking and arson have been registered against the deceased and an inquest is opened in respect of his death.
