An elderly man was threatened with a knife while two suspects ransacked his house at a retirement village in Kabega Park and stole items worth almost R70 000 yesterday morning, November 9.
The 71-year-old complainant was sitting outside on the step, smoking, at the retirement village in Tulbagh Street at approximately 04:30, when he was surprised by an unknown man who threatened him with a knife.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that another
unknown man joined them and together they ordered the complainant
into his house, waking the complainant’s wife, who was also in the house. The
suspects stole a TV set, laptop, wallet and two cell phones. The estimated
value of the items is R68 000.
“While still busy with the investigation
at the scene, detectives received and followed up on information about possible
suspects in Malabar Extension 6. At about 08:00, the two suspects, aged 30 and
33 years old, were behind bars. All the stolen property except for the TV and
the wallet were recovered,” she said.
Both suspects are detained on a charge
of house robbery and will appear in the St Albans Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. Detectives are also investigating their possible involvement
in other cases of house robbery and theft in the Kabega Park area.
