Following a foiled truck hijacking at Trucker’s Inn this week, NMBM Safety and Security MMC Lawrence Troon, has called on all motorists to remain vigilant on the roads.

This comes after quick-thinking Metro Police officers nabbed four would-be hijackers at the busy Trucker’s Inn intersection along Addo Road at 22:00 on Tuesday.

The three officers were driving towards Summerstrand when they noticed that the intersection was blocked by vehicles. It was later revealed that a truck was being hijacked and the officers intervened.

“With the festive season approaching, we want to warn all motorists to keep their doors locked at all times and be alert in their surroundings, especially in the busy areas. During the Metro Police intervention a struggle occurred that left one officer injured. Upon searching the suspects and their vehicles, a 9mm unlicensed firearm was found,” Troon said.

“The four suspects were arrested and taken to the Swartkops Police Station where they were detained on the following charges: pointing of a firearm, possession of an illegal firearm, attempted hijacking, threatening an officer, failure to furnish authority to possess a firearm, assaulting an officer and interference with an officer’s duties,” he said.

He added that Metro Police visibility was crucial to prevent such incidents. The driver of the truck sustained no injuries and there was no loss of equipment or load.
