FOR a baby who has the tendency to “moan and groan” when she is hungry and tired, as her mother describes it, this little girl can just as easily start smiling when she sees a camera because she loves to pose for pictures.

This is quite evident when one looks at the pictures of Avery Jozaffe and her charming smile is probably one of the reasons why she is this year’s winner of the PE Express Christmas Baby Competition.

Although there were countless entries of the Bay’s cutest babies, Avery made it to the top at the end.

Born at Greenacres Hospital on the morning of February 10, 2022, Avery recently turned 10 months old and is the last born in a family of four.

If she doesn’t play with her older brother, Blake (7), or the family’s two-year-old German Shepherd, Max, Avery clings to her two favourite toys: a toy cellphone and her blanket.

She has a huge appetite for beef macaroni, yoghurt and watermelon and her favourite words are “dada” and “tata”.

Avery’s mother, Leighzan Jozaffe, said that it was actually her husband Warren’s idea to enter their cutie for the competition after he read about it in PE Express and sent her a picture of the details.

“When I received the phone call that she had won, I was shocked and couldn’t believe that my baby had won the competition above all the other beautiful babies.

“I literally screamed so loud that my colleagues thought I was crazy, yet concerned about what was going on with me. I was so overwhelmed and felt very thankful at the same time. I’m quite overjoyed that my baby won her first baby competition. I’m still in shock yet excited to see her on the front page of the PE Express,” Jozaffe said.

She added that Avery is a very happy baby who is full of energy and can be witty at times.

“She has developed a cute personality who is ever ready for the camera and always making her family laugh with her silly actions.

“She’s so pleasant and always smiling and only moans and groans when she’s hungry and tired.”

The proud mother explained that they had been planning on having a second child and after taking a home pregnancy test, she surprised her husband on Father’s Day last year by giving him the positive test as a gift.

“Avery brings so much joy in our lives. She is such a bundle of joy and only has eyes for her family.”

Jozaffe said that they love spending time together and enjoy being with other close family members and friends, watching movies, going for walks on the beach and doing fun-filled activities.

“This year we are going to Johannesburg to spend Christmas with my sister. My whole family will be together as it has been a long time since we had a family gathering.”

They will also be welcoming the New Year in Johannesburg.
