The wait for the outcomes of the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) is nearing its expected end with learners expected to receive their results on January 19 and their original statements from January 20.
According to the Department of Basic Education (DBE), its officials have already begun processing the results for the Class of 2022.
The 2022 matric cohort officially sat for their apex examination over a five-week period from October 31 to December 7.
This was a record number of 923 460 learners comprising of full-time and part-time registering to sit for the 2022 matric examination, a 3% increase compared to the preceding year’s participation.
The administration of the examination saw a team of 52 811 markers undertake marking the 2022 National Certificate on December 10, to conclude the vital task on December 20.
According to the national spokesperson for the department, Elijah Mhlanga, preparations are still on track for the official release of results by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on January 19.
“The release of the results is often a tricky and sensitive time for some pupils as they could face pressure from their families or feel depressed during this time, but there is nothing one can do other than to wait patiently for the day of results,” said in a statement.
He also advised pupils to “keep busy by reading, exercising and staying safe”.
He encouraged learners who are prone to battling with stress and anxiety to talk to anyone about their state of mind or contact the South African Depression and Anxiety Group for free professional advice on handling stress and anxiety.
The DBE urged learners to collect their results from the centres at which they sat for their NSC exams.
- February 3: Last day to apply for remarking of examination scripts
- February 8: Last day to register to rewrite in May/June 2023
- March 15: Last day to register for the October/November 2023 exams
