Soon after an incident of truckjacking was reported on Friday, March 3, SAPS Motherwell members followed a tracker activation and not only recovered the stolen items but also other suspected stolen items in an abandoned house.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that at approximately 13:30, a delivery truck was hijacked by two men, of which one was armed, at a complex in Ngonyama Street, NU1 in Ikamvelihle.
“The suspects drove the truck with the complainant and his passenger in the direction NU10 Motherwell. They dropped them off at a vandalised house in NU10. They later returned with the truck, handed them the empty truck and let them go,” Naidu explained.
The complainant drove to SAPS Ikamvelihle and reported the incident. Two cases of rum, four boxes of tobacco and two cell phones to the value of R17 000 were taken.
Naidu said that immediately after the case was reported, SAPS Motherwell members picked up the tracker signal and recovered the stolen items as well as other suspected stolen goods in a house at Mpanda Street, NU10 in Motherwell.
“There was no one at the house. More liquor, boxes of tea, boots, boxes of medicine, cartons of cigarettes, tobacco, 138 Hot Wheels toys, clothing and sunglasses were seized. The value of the recovered items is unknown at this stage,” she said.
Police are urging residents to not turn a blind eye to suspicious activities taking place in their neighbourhoods but to instead report it to the police who will immediately act on the information. These tip-offs can be anonymously reported to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or any police station.
