Police have made a breakthrough in connection with the mass shooting that rocked the community of KwaZakhele at the end of January 2023.

Police have made a breakthrough in connection with the mass shooting that rocked the community of KwaZakhele at the end of January 2023.

The Police Ministry has confirmed that a suspect has been arrested and applauded the detective work of the SAPS.

According to police reports, two armed men entered a yard in Maqanda Street, KwaZakhele on January 29 and shot at the guests attending a birthday celebration.

Eleven people were shot during the ambush, which left eight people dead with three others sustaining serious injuries.

Eastern Cape police, through the leadership of Provincial Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Nomthetheleli Mene, launched a manhunt for the suspects as they investigated eight cases of murder and three cases of attempted murder.

Police are currently in pursuit of more suspects believed to be involved in the brutal mass shooting that shocked the community and the country. 

The Police Ministry is encouraged by the arrests which demonstrate the sharpness of the investigative and intelligence efforts of the police, who continue to pursue justice at all costs.
