The burnt body of an unknown woman was found next to a car on the Perseverance Road in Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday morning, March 5 in what appears to have been a hijacking incident.

According to police information, at approximately 22:00 on Friday, a 42-year-old man left a tavern in KwaDwesi Extension with an unknown woman. They drove to Chelsea Road in Perseverance and whilst in the vehicle, they were approached by two unknown men in a red Toyota Tazz.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that the couple was allegedly shoved into the boot of the complainant’s Ford Figo and driven around by the suspects.

“At some stage, the vehicle stopped in Samcay on the gravel road in Perseverance. The complainant alleged that he was driven to an ATM in Algoa Park and when there was no money in the account, the suspects threatened him and dropped him off. The complainant reported the incident at SAPS Algoa Park. The vehicle, the Ford Figo, was recovered by Tracker,” Naidu explained.

“When police arrived at the scene, the woman was found lying outside the vehicle and the vehicle completely burnt. At this stage, the identity of the woman is unknown. Police are investigating a case of vehicle hijacking and murder,” she added.
