MAKE a note, save the date – the IsiXhosa Music Festival is back again!
This unique content festival, conceptualised and delivered in partnership with Umhlobo Wenene FM and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, was first hosted in December 2015 and was the largest indigenous language festival in the Eastern Cape.
The second annual IsiXhosa Music Festival is bringing a whole new experience to the community of Nelson Mandela Bay.
Three distinct, and yet interwoven, elements will be hosted as part of it and are meant to benefit IsiXhosa musicians, the creative industry, township and tourism sector, the broader community of Nelson Mandela Bay and the Eastern Cape – in particular youth and women.
The first segment is going to be a workshop on Monday, March 27.
Multi-award winning singer, Ringo Madlingozi, will teach young and keen musicians how to grow, nurture and mould the music craft. Madlingozi has almost 150 songs in his catalogue and has been in the industry for over 30 years.
Following the first segment, the Music Festival will then take place on April 29. This second instalment will feature Ringo Madlingozi, Nathi Mankayi, Amanda Black, 047, Max-Hoba, Ntsika – formerly of The Soil, along with Zuko_SA, Dumza Maswana, Nomty Ngwetsheni, Zimsto Eroofini, Andy Ndlazilwana, Dongadala (poet), Joliza, Nosisi Mavela, Qhama Afrika Dance Group, Luckeez Mfowethu, Phila Madlingozi, Asanda Mqiki, KingJade and BabyJoe.
The final segment will be a corporate social initiative event hosted by the event organisers, on behalf of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and Umhlobo Wenene FM on May 25, to commemorate Africa Month.
“I envision that the concept will grow with time, and become so popular that it will be part of the social calendar of South Africans, and corporates will schedule the events to treat their clients, customers and staff, alike,” said Mazizi Msutu, the event organiser.
“Food will be isiXhosa food, that will be served at the festival and that patrons are encouraged to come out daring, colourful and beautiful in your regalia of choice,” emphasised Msutu.
The IsiXhosa Music Festival will be held on April 29 at the St George’s Park Cricket Stadium. Gates open at 10:00 and the festival will start at 12:00. Tickets, from R265, are available from www.webtickets.co.za.
