Detectives from Humewood police station are investigating an inquest after the body of a man was found earlier today, 3 April in Marine Drive, Humewood.

According to captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, police spokesperson, it is alleged that on Sunday, 2 April at approximately 20:00 the deceased, Elgin Maghienda (51) went to a bush dwelling in Marine Drive looking for a place to stay for the night.

“This morning the residents of the dwelling left him and went to the shops. At approximately 11:00, upon their return, they found the deceased in the dwelling with a gunshot wound to the head. The firearm used was also recovered at the scene and will be sent to forensics for analysis. No foul play is suspected,” Janse van Rensburg said.

It is further alleged that Maghienda is suspected to have been involved in the shooting of Carol Ann Magielies (49) who was fatally shot outside the St George’s Hospital in Park Drive last night, 2 April. She was a hospital employee at St George’s, according to Janse van Rensburg.

“Since the murder of Ms Magielies, police have been on the hunt for Maghienda as a possible suspect.

“It is not yet sure what his relation to Magielies was.”
