Relentless efforts by SAPS Humewood detectives to trace the suspect(s) involved in the fatal shooting of Carol Ann Magielies (49) paid off when a suspect was arrested on Monday, 3 April. .
“After the discovery of the deceased ex-boyfriend’s body in Marine Drive, Summerstrand on Monday, D/Sgt Ridwaan Baatjies received information of a Ford Icon as well as the driver allegedly involved in her murder on Sunday evening, 2 April,” explained Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, police spokesperson.
The ex-boyfriend, Elgin Maghienda (51), was suspected to have been involved in the shooting of Magielies.

At approximately 14:00 on Monday, an address in Haig Avenue in Kensington was visited and a 35-year-old man was arrested and the vehicle confiscated.
“The suspect is detained on a charge of murder and will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court today, 5 April.”
Magielies was on her way to get into her transport after she finished working at St George’s Hospital on Sunday, when she was allegedly approached by Maghienda who pulled her aside and fired multiple shots at her. He fled on foot and she was rushed to hospital where she passed away.
