Unemployed Prince Maginxa established Prince Academy at Motherwell NU 11 informal settlement in January 2023.
Maginxa said that he noticed there were many children, including youth, who were doing nothing at Umjondolo Informal Settlement.
According to Maginxa, he then contemplated a way of saving the youth from criminal activities.
“I told myself that I should make a difference in my community as I am unemployed,” said Maginxa.
“Therefore, I held a meeting with the parents and I told them that I would like to establish the soccer academy. Indeed, the parents were so satisfied with my idea of forming a soccer academy.”
Maginxa named his soccer endeavour, Prince Academy. To date, there is huge progress within Prince Academy, because it has more than 80 players since its inception.
“Our committee of Prince Academy consists of these members, Athenkosi Rawula, Mbali Mame, Sinombulelo Maginxa, Lindiwe Sipika and myself. Our main objective in forming the club is to develop quality players so that they could play in the topflight football one day,” said Maginxa.
Founder and head coach Maginxa highlighted that they were faced with some challenges, which include sports apparel and equipment, as well as the practice field.
“Our under 11 are MOFA Easter Tournament 2023 Edition,” said Maginxa. “Our challenges do not deter us from achieving our objectives as our club has only one ball that is used for practices and matches by our six teams. We conduct our practices at Motherwell Cemetery. We bought 15 pairs of socks and our neighbours, City Shakers, loaned us some soccer jerseys – and Showvillage United also loaned us some 14 shorts. I humbly appeal to any person to come to our rescue. My contact details are 078 091 6656.”
