A truck was almost hijacked in Nelson Mandela Bay during the early hours of this morning, May 18, but took a turn when the suspects couldn’t drive the truck.
At approximately 04:30, the truck that was travelling on the John Tallant off-ramp from Deal Party towards Cradock, was stopped by a bakkie.
A passenger got out of the bakkie and allegedly pointed a firearm at the driver.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that the truck driver was taken into a VW Polo and driven off.
“A suspect got into the truck and attempted to drive off. However, he experienced difficulty and could not drive the truck. He phoned his accomplices and informed them. The VW Polo made a U-turn and came back. The driver of the truck managed to get out and run. He stopped a police vehicle from SAPS KwaZakhele and informed them what had happened.” Naidu explained.
She said that the suspects fled the scene.
“A case of attempted truckjacking was opened for investigation,” she added.
