Police seek next of kin of three bodies discovered in Gqeberha and Kariega

Police are urgently trying to trace the next of kin and the identity of three people who have died in separate incidents on May 20 and 21 in Gqeberha and Kariega.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, in the first incident, on May 20 at about 04:00, police attended to a complaint of shooting in Javu Street in Kwazakele. 

She said on arrival, they found the body of an unknown man lying in the street. 

“He sustained a gunshot wound on his head. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The deceased is unknown at this stage,” said Naidu.

She said police are investigating a case of murder and anyone who can assist in identifying the deceased or may know of his next of kin, is asked to contact, SAPS Kwazakele, D/Capt Kulile Ntuli on 071 352 4604 or the nearest police station.   

On the same day, Naidu said that at about 17:00, a shepherd was walking in the bushy area along a foot path behind Eskom, next to the Uitenhage Airfield fencing when he came across the body of an elderly man. 

She said the deceased was not wearing shoes and he was wearing a greyish jacket, black track pants and a navy silky track pants underneath the black track pants. 

“He had a small laceration on his head and a 2 metre stick was at his feet,” said Naidu.

“The body was found about 5km from the Kruisrivier area and on the top of the mountain close to the Kwanobuhle residential area.

Naidu said at this stage no foul play is suspected and police have opened an inquest docket.

She said anyone who can assist in identifying the deceased or may know of his next of kin, is asked to contact, SAPS Uitenhage, D/W/O Deon Roos at 079 896 8148 or the nearest police station.

In a third incident on May 21 at about 03:40 Naidu said SAPS Walmer responded to a complaint of murder in Majola Street in Walmer location.

She said on arrival, the body of an unknown man was found lying on his stomach.

Naidu said he is approximately 30 years old and was dressed in a black track pants, a brown fleece jacket, a navy blue beanie and a pair of grey and white takkies. 

She said he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. 

Naidu said police are investigating a case of murder and are appealing to anyone who may be able to identify the deceased or may know of his next of kin, to contact SAPS Walmer D/Sgt Lindile Mlaza on 082 075 7186 or the nearest police station.
