EMAKHALENI-based team, Shining Stars, kept the hopes of defending their league title alive for their supporters, defeating the tough Zwide Pirates 2–1 during their ZWIFA (Zwide Football Association) Swartkops Sea Salt Premier League at Zwide Stadium on Sunday.
Sihle Deyi got a goal under his belt in the 56th minute to put Stars 1–0 in front.
Stars’ Zukisani Mbane was rewarded with a superb goal that kept the scoreline at 2–0 in the 70th minute. The long-awaited goal that sent Pirates supporters into raptures, was scored by Lungelo Mkonto in the 76th minute.
The referee blew his final whistle to see Stars claim a hard-fought 2–1 victory from the gutsy Pirates.
