In
less than a month the Eastern Cape will receive the 2023 Netball World Cup
Trophy that will begin its tour of the province from 29 June to 3 July 2023.

This
takes place as the province recently held the school’s mini netball world cup
games that were held in East London last month.

The eight districts of the province were represented by two teams of the country that will be participating in the world cup from all the
16 countries.

MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Nonceba Kontsiwe, crisscrossed the province, handing over
sporting equipment and attire that includes netball kit, to schools, hubs, and
clubs.

Last weekend the Eastern Cape hosted the Netball
Masters interprovincial championships in Selborne Park, East London, where
almost all the provinces were represented.

All
these activities were done in a bid to promote the Netball World Cup and that
includes the Netball World Cup Friday’s campaign of wearing the World Cup
jerseys.

Citizens are encouraged to wear their sport gear or World Cup jerseys
every Friday as a form of awareness.

In anticipation of
the trophy tour in the province, Kontsiwe said: “The trophy
will bring more excitement as it will be showcased throughout our communities,
this includes townships, schools, and rural areas.

“We hope it encourages and inspires our youth to be involved in sporting activities and citizens
realise that the Netball World Cup is indeed here. We want to promote total
participation in sport, and I think this trophy tour will assist a great deal
in that regard,” said Kontsiwe.
