THE Community Chest of the Eastern Cape has been serving the community for more than seven decades, and one of their longstanding projects is the Winter Woolly Drive.
This drive has assisted the community for more than 20 years, with a collection of much-needed blankets and clothing for the cold winter months. This campaign assists many vulnerable families who face huge challenges when winter arrives.
“Children are, at times, kept home from school because they don’t have a warm jersey or shoes to endure the cold, nor have a plate of food to eat. We believe with the collaborative effort between our citizens of the metro and Community Chest of the Eastern Cape we can make a significant impact as we cover quite a large footprint,” said Selwyn Willis, CEO of Community Chest.
Community Chest received its first donation of 100 blankets from Walmer Park Shopping Centre.
“We have supported the Community Chest’s Winter Woolly Drive for several years with a ‘big’ donation of blankets to launch the campaign. As a shopping centre, we acknowledge the wonderful work they do in our communities, always striving to aid and uplift the people. As a corporate, it is our responsibility to support NGOs like the Community Chest so they can continue the good work,” said Deveda Bloem, PRO and marketing manager at Walmer Park.
The Community Chest is inviting all local corporates to support this campaign by hosting a box at their workplace.
“We all have that item of clothing in our cupboard taking up unwanted space. This could really benefit a vulnerable person looking to keep warm, especially during these chilly winter days we’ve experienced so far, with more to come. Help us to bring warm winter smiles to those less fortunate,” said Willis.
