Three suspects were arrested shortly after a robbery at a chain store in Central, Gqeberha where 14 cellphones were stolen on June 8.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 16:30 on June 8, three suspects entered the chain store in Govan Mbeki Avenue.
She said one suspect pointed a firearm at the staff and smashed the cell phone display cabinet.
“The suspects took 14 different cell phones and as the suspects were about to exit, the manager ran outside and alerted patrolling Metro Police officers. They immediately responded and arrested all three suspects,” said Janse van Rensburg.
She further said the officers recovered a toy firearm and the cell phones which were stolen during the robbery.
Janse van Rensburg said the suspects were detained on charges of business robbery and will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on June 12.
