The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 1 (Yellow) warning for disruptive rain over big parts of the Eastern Cape from tomorrow, 26 June.

“A chance of showers and rain is expected over most
parts of the province as a cut-off low west of the country is accompanied by a
high pressure system that will extend its ridge south of the country. A good
chance of rain is expected along the coast and adjacent interior, with possible
amounts of 30 to 50mm between Cape St Francis and Mazeppa Bay,” SAWS said in a statement.

The disruptive rain is expected to result in localised
flooding of susceptible settlements, roads and low-lying areas. Difficult
driving conditions and traffic disruptions can also be expected as a result of
heavier falls and poor visibility.

“Minor motor vehicle accidents may be
possible due to slippery roads,” warned the Weather Service.

“The public is advised to take necessary precautions to
secure their properties. They are also advised to be aware of flooded areas
when driving, and try to avoid them if possible, especially areas that are
prone to flooding.”

Affected municipal areas
  • Buffalo City
  • Great Kei
  • Kouga
  • Mnquma
  • Ndlambe
  • Nelson Mandela Bay
  • Ngqushwa
  • Sundays River Valley

The warning is valid from 00:00 on 26 June 2023 to 00:00 on 27 June 2023.
