THE Port Elizabeth Gilbert and Sullivan Society announced that they will be putting on a production of the award-winning Broadway Musical, Hairspray, and their auditions have unearthed some amazing talent.
These ran from the June 12 to 15 at the Savoy Theatre and the stage was abuzz with hopefuls of all ages strutting their stuff and singing their hearts out.
A plethora of talent showed up at the auditions, which threw a spanner in the works for director, Rose Cowpar, making choosing the cast an extremely difficult decision.
However, the enthusiasm, talent and commitment shown by the auditioners were remarkable to observe.
“In the 15 years that I have been holding auditions at the Savoy Theatre, these were the best auditions we have ever had,” said Cowpar.
The result is a talented cast of both accomplished, local favourites, as well as some new voices to add to the growing talent pool of the G&S Society.
Young Hannah Stiglingh takes the lead as Tracy Turnblad in her first full scale production outside of school. No stranger to the Savoy Stage, she has made appearances in all the PE G&S Society shows this year, and looks set to become a firm favourite. Jaydee Mulder makes a grand comeback to our stage and will be donning his heels as Tracy’s mom, Edna.
