The Unity Foundation, managed locally by radio presenter Adorè Morgan and which has its origins in the Western Cape, has branched out to Gqeberha.
One of its focal points is alleviating hunger, which is prevalent among the poorest of the poor.
With this goal in mind, and in light of the onset of winter, the foundation, under the directorship of the renowned entertainer and entrepreneur Loukmaan Adams, celebrated its local launch on July 1 at a soup kitchen operated by community stalwart, Hendrina Potgieter, in Hartebees Street, Helenvale.
“This area was specifically chosen because, despite its reputation as a gang-infested hotspot, it is also home to a great many impoverished but hardworking families,” said Morgan.
While the recipients arrived, they were entertained by Adams, who performed stirring renditions of some of his popular songs. The crowd were also entertained by the ever-popular Boeta B, whose repertoire kept the audience in stitches.
Apart from non-perishable food items and winter blankets, Jars of Hope were distributed to the community. These jars contain nutritious ingredients such as rice, soup mix, lentils, stock cubes and soup powder. When the recipients add these contents to boiling water, the result is a nourishing meal sufficient for a family of four.
