East London business
owner, Pramesh Hooka who was kidnapped on July 20, was dropped off on the side
of the road in Amalinda, three days later, on July 23 with visible injuries.
As previously reported,
Hooka who is the owner of Autostyling was allegedly kidnapped by five men in
front of his business in Amalinda on July 20.
Hawks spokesperson, Yolisa
Mgolodela said three days after the alleged kidnapping, Hooka was dropped off
at the side of the road in Amalinda on July 23 at about 22:00 with visible injuries.
She said she is
unaware as to whether a ransom amount was paid.
Mgolodela further said
crime generally starts in one area but then the criminals move to a different
location.
“There was a period
where kidnapping was rife in Gqeberha but then spread to other areas. Now there
has been an increase in East London,” said Mgolodela.
She said in a previous
case they have found that the criminals travelled from Gauteng to commit crime
in the Eastern Cape.
“We have found that
there is a syndicate involved in these kidnappings,” said Mgolodela.
