Alleged boyfriend nabbed for murder of girl ,8, found in Walmer

A 32-year-old man was arrested this afternoon, August 2 in Walmer for the alleged murder of Taslin Lucas (8), whose burnt body was found a vandalised house in Airport Valley, Walmer on July 24. 

As previously reported ,on July 24, at approximately 17:00, SAPS Walmer responded to a complaint  of a body lying in a vandalised house in Airport Valley.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, on the police’s arrival, the community pointed out the body of a girl, who was later identified as eight year old Taslin. 

She said when she was discovered, she has visible burn wounds on her body.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 14:30, August 2 , the community found the suspect at the 5th Avenue dumping site and started to assault him when a security vehicle stopped and intervened.

She said the man was taken to SAPS Walmer and is detained for the murder of the child. 

“The suspect is alleged to be the boyfriend of the deceased girl’s mother,” said Naidu. 

She said earlier today, about 100 people, mainly school children from Walmer location staged a peaceful march to the police station.

“The school children handed over a memorandum about gender-based violence and progress relating to the death of Taslin,” said Naidu.  

She said the investigation is ongoing.
