The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Gqeberha is hunting for three suspects involved in a fatal house robbery in Bluewater Bay early this morning, September 1.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 03:00, the lounge window of a frail care centre in Riverside Drive was forced open and entry was gained.
Naidu said the suspects split up and went to the men’s and women’s section of the house.
“One resident aged 55 years old was shot in the head as he came out of his room. He died on the scene.
“The co-owner, Riaan Van Aswegen (53), on hearing the shots, came out of his room and was surprised by the suspect who shot him in the head in the passage,” said Naidu.
“Four cellphones, jewellery belonging to the female victims and two TV sets were taken; the suspects exited through a sliding door and left.
The resident’s name is withheld until his next of kin is located,” she added.
