The Gqeberha-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested two foreign nationals aged 29 and 33 on September 15, for allegations of kidnapping.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, it is alleged that on September 3, the victim was kidnapped by the two suspects from his house in Gqeberha.
“The suspects allegedly used the victim’s cell phone to contact the family, demanding an unknown ransom,” said Mhlakuvana.
The matter was reported to the Hawks for investigation.
“During the investigation, the suspects were traced by the investigating team and were both arrested in Gqeberha where they were found in possession of the victim’s cellphone,” said Mhlakuvana.
Both suspects will make their first appearance at Gqeberha Magistrates’ Court on September 18.
