Police recovered a hijacked vehicle parked outside a tavern soon after it was stolen from Oxford Street on the night of September 30.
It is alleged that on Saturday, October 1 at about 19:00, the complainant stopped to withdraw cash from an ATM when he was pointed with a firearm on his neck by an unknown male. His cash was taken and he was escorted back to his bakkie where his passenger was also held at gunpoint by a second suspect.
Captain Hazel Mqala said the man and his passenger were robbed of their cell phones and were driven off in the bakkie by the suspects.
“They were dropped off in Mdantsane where they reported the incident to police. They went with the police in search of the vehicle and as they were about to give up with the search, they spotted it parked outside a tavern. No one was in the vehicle,” Mqala said.
A case of vehicle hijacking and robbery with a weapon is under investigation.
