Gqeberha police are investigating the murders of three men in the northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay, where all three victims died due to gunshot injuries. These murders happened on Sunday, October 1 and Monday, October 2.
According to Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that on Sunday, October 1, at about 15:55, police were stopped in Barends Street in Salt Lake where they were informed by the community of a body of a person lying in Barends Street.
“The person was deceased having sustained a gunshot wound to his head. He was identified as Aubrey September (30) of Barends Street,” said Naidu.
Naidu said circumstances surrounding his death is unknown at this stage.
“Suspects are also unknown.”
A case of murder is under investigation.
In an unrelated incident, Naidu said on Monday, October 2, it is alleged that at about 07:30, SAPS Chatty was alerted to two bodies that were laying in the bushes alongside Standford Road.
“On arrival, police found the two deceased men with multiple gunshot wounds.
“They are estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old, their identities are unknown at this stage,” said Naidu.
She further added, according to the community, they heard gunshots at about 20:00 last night in the vicinity where the bodies were found.
One deceased was wearing a green pair of jeans, a yellow T-shirt, yellow jacket and grey slippers while the other was wearing grey jeans, blue overall top and black/red Adidas takkies.
“The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Gqeberha are investigating a case of two murders.”
Anyone who can assist in identifying the deceased persons is asked to contact D/W/O Robin Denston 072 139 0241 or the nearest police station.
The DA’s Shadow Minister of Police, Andrew Whitfield, said, the DA has written to the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, to request the urgent intervention of SAPS to deploy specialist resources to deal with the ongoing killings in the Northern Areas of Nelson Mandela Bay.
“The DA has previously requested the Minister to assist crime-ridden Nelson Mandela Bay but all efforts to date have come up short while violent crime spirals out of control,” said Whitfield.
“There have been a number of mass killings in NMB this year and while some arrests have been made, criminals continue to terrorise residents with impunity.”
