The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality closed Tourism Month in township style in New Brighton, through a cycle tour by local influencers, tour operators and bloggers on Thursday, September 28.

The cycle tour, a unique feature within the township tourist packages, was hosted by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Tourism Sub-directorate.

The bloggers, influencers, and tour guides cycled around New Brighton, visiting tourist attractions like Mendi Art Centre, Singaphi Street, Embizweni Square and other sites with political and cultural history.

They also enjoyed some tasty soulful meals in some of the restaurants within the New Brighton area.

“The cycling is a unique experience in the tourism month programme, as it is directly responding to our objective of developing and positioning our townships as tourism destinations. New Brighton is one of the priority township destinations,” said the NMBM acting executive director, Mpho Pebane.

He said that the cycling experience is part of configuring and integrating various products and services into a sustainable year-round visitor experience.

The local tourism businesses, community activists, ambassadors, and other role players are all integral to the development and management of tourism products and services.

Mayoral Committee member for Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture, Shuling Lindoor, said that the metro is working hard to position Nelson Mandela Bay as a tourist destination of choice.

“We have had a successful Tourism Month programme that cuts across with a special focus on township tourism and what it offers. Going towards the Summer Season we hope to build from this solid foundation.”
