- The case has been postponed to Friday, October 20.
- He was arrested 10 days after the disappearance of Desiree Baartman who lived in the same house as him.
Johnny Baartman, the former Gqeberha teacher who allegedly murdered his ex-wife, Desiree Baartman, briefly appeared in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s court today, October 13.
The case was postponed to Friday, October 20 for psychological observation.
During the court proceedings, state prosecutor, Melani Hammett stated that a bed was available for Baartman at Fort England.
Unlike prrevious court proceedings, Baartman seemed to be in a better state. He stood confidently, dressed in a multi-coloured jersey and beige pants, and he wore a surgical mask.

His children were not in the gallery. His brother attended the hearing. He was, however, reluctant to speak to the media.
As previously reported, before Desiree’s disappearance on 7 June 2023, the divorced couple lived together in Nagel Street in Bethelsdorp, Gqeberha.
