The Hawks have activated a Special Kidnapping Task Team in Gqeberha following the recent abductions of two individuals, Juan Yang (43) and Arshad Mahmood (47), in separate incidents last week.
Yang was last seen traveling between Cleary Park Shopping Centre and Kenako Mall on February 13, while Mahmood, was kidnapped outside his business in Korsten a day later.
According to the Hawks’ Eastern Cape spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Avele Fumba, stated that the task team, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, is actively on the ground, following all possible leads.
Fumba said that, at this stage, the Hawks are still trying to establish direct communication with the victim’s family.

“We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. All information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality,” he added.
Speaking to the Express regarding Mahmood, Fumba stated, “The other case is at an advanced stage of a highly sensitive investigation.”
“For any developments you will be informed,” he added.
As previously reported by the Express, police reports indicated that five unidentified suspects arrived in a black JWM double cab vehicle and, at gunpoint, forced Mahmood into the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
