A nine-year-old boy, Thukele Bosman, remains missing following a drowning incident that occurred on Saturday, February 15, at Smelly Creek in the North End area.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that Bosman was swimming with friends when a wave pulled him into the sea. “The friends ran home and informed his mother, who alerted SAPS,” she explained.

SAPS Mount Road responded to the incident at about 14:25. Various stakeholders, including SAPS divers, Coastal Water Rescue, EMS, and the NMB lifesaving/beach office, assisted with a search in the vicinity of the drowning, but the boy could not be found.

The search was called off on the evening of Saturday, February 15, and continued on Sunday, February 16.

“The mother did open a missing person report at SAPS Mount Road,” she added.
