Electrocuted man found in alleged copper theft, police seek next of kin

Kariega police are seeking the next of kin of a man electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal copper cables on Algoa Road, Swartkops Bridge, in the early hours of Saturday, February 22.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, police attended to a complaint of an electrocution at 00:05.

She said that when police found the man, aged between 25 and 30, he was dressed in blue pants and a dark blue jacket.

She reported: “On arrival, they found the unknown man who was electrocuted and had passed away.

“The members also confiscated a hacksaw, knife, and a backpack,” she added.

“Any person that could assist police with information to identify the deceased can contact SAPS Kariega, D/Sgt JP Smith at 071 475 2230, or alternatively, Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.”
