It is alleged that on Tuesday, January 9, at about 18:45 police were alerted to a drowning incident at the Sunday’s River, behind the Colchester Spar.
According to police information, three children, aged 10, 13 and 15 years old were swimming and jumping off the jetty when it is alleged that after the 13 and 15 year-old teenagers jumped off the jetty, they experienced difficulty in the water and disappeared below the surface.
“The 10-year-old alerted relatives and the police K9 Search and Rescue as well as the Diving Unit were mobilised. At about 19:00, 13-year-old Tatum Jonas, and Elden Boesak were retrieved from the water. No foul play is suspected and an inquest docket is opened for investigation,” Colonel Priscilla Naidu of SAPS said.
