The Eastern Cape provincial storage capacity has remained steady at 84.5%, resulting from the scattered showers experienced in parts of the eastern half of the province during the week.
Dams listed under the Algoa Water Supply System, which supplies water mainly to dams in the Nelson Mandela Metro, remain at above-average percentages. These include Kouga Dam, which stands at 98.3% from last week’s 97.2%; Loerie Dam is slightly up from 84.1% to 86.5% this week; Haarlem Dam is at 97.3% this week compared to 96.7% last week while Impofu Dam is below average at 44.6% this week compared to 44.4% last week.
The Amathole Water Supply System provides water to the Amathole District and Buffalo City Metro at 100% total capacity. Dams on the system have also recorded above-average percentages.
Namely, Rooinkrans Dam at 100.5% from last week’s 101.1%, Nahoon Dam at 100.4%, and Laing Dam at 101.1% this week, a minimal decrease from 102.2% recorded last week.
Meanwhile, the Klipplaat Water Supply System is sitting at 99.3% this week compared to 99.4% last week. Boesmanskrantz Dam is at 99.6% from 99.9%. Oxkraal Dam is at 96.8% from last week’s 96.7%. Waterdown Dam is sitting at 100.2% total capacity.
