Following a club meeting held in Motherwell NU 9 on Friday, Volcano Ladies’ FC founder and chairman, Mzuvukile Khesi, has announced the club is on sale.
Khesi reported that the club’s current financial position forced them to decide to sell their club status to any buyer at a negotiable price.
“It is not an easy decision that we have come up with, that we should sell Volcano LFC status, but we do not have the financial resources that will enable us carry on with our club in Sasol Ladies’ Coastal Stream League this year,” said Khesi. “The financial challenges that we are faced with include registration fees with SAFA Eastern Cape, weekly match officials’ fees, field-hiring fees for our home games, transport costs for away games, and players’ catering costs.”
Khesi stated that he always digs deep into his pockets to pay for almost everything. He also reported that his club still owed the local transport owner.
“We are still waiting for SAFA to give us the subsidy, the league prize for the club’s number seventh position on the log table in 2022/23 season, and refunds of match officials.
“Our few players that come from poor backgrounds have no financial means to contribute to the club so that it can still campaign in the provincial league. I have reported to our sponsors, Orion Engineered Carbons, about our decision. The money that we might get from selling the club’s status will be used to buy the club’s transport that will be branded with our sponsor’s logo.”
“We pay R15 000 for a 15-seater taxi, but it is R19 000 for 22-seater taxi. I have to go around to secure money for transport. The club has to pay R770 for field hiring and R400 for match officials. We have decided that we will play in SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s Regional League this season, and we aim to win this league and play again in the provincial league,” said Khesi when asked about the transport costs that they pay to Komani.
Despite the challenges, Volcano Ladies’ FC has players that play in the SAFA Hollywood Bets League. Yomelela Jacobs plays for TS Galaxy Queens, and Kamvelihle Speelman, Siphosethu Nojoko, Sikelelwa Mhlanga and Sinazo Zinto play for City Lads LFC.
