LION City FC maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated FC Angels 2–0 during their Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) Premier League clash that took place in Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Sunday.

It was a tough game as both sides played their hearts out.

City could have registered their opener earlier, but their striker Akhanani Mtungwa shot straight to FC Angels’ goalkeeper, John Last, who pulled a brilliant save.

Angels’ striker, Siviwe Sithethi, also had an opportunity to bang in an opening goal for his side, but his efforts went over the posts. City goalkeeper, Likhona Tolman, covered the space for the striker.

City debutant, Themba Twani, scored a goal that guided his side to a 1–0 lead after his side were awarded a corner kick. City pressed hard, and Angels’ defender, Ayabonga Jonas, floored one of City’s forwards in the goalkeeper area, with the referee awarding a penalty taken by Twani, to make the final score 2–0 in favour of Lion City.

Three red cards were shown by the referee to FC Angels’ Siviwe Sithethi and Ayabonga Jonas, with Lion City substitute, Kamvelihle Nyweba, going to showers as well.

In another tough game, MOFA Dr Biyana Top 8 champions, Valencia FC, earned a hard-fought 1–0 victory over MOFA Premier League champions, Young Madrid FC, at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium.

Khanyisa Mtana scored Valencia’s goal late in the game after Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thamsanqa Peter, played his role but his defenders failed to marshal at the back.
