Local schools will continue hosting top events despite uncertain times at the Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU).

The secretary of EP High Schools Rugby Association, Neville Botha, said the preparations to host the Grant Khomo Week at Grey High School in Gqeberha in June are in full swing.

All the provincial u/16 teams will play in this annual tournament which is one of the most prestigious in the country. Zimbabwe and Namibia will also be represented.

“We work day and night to host top school events in our region,” Botha added.

There was concern in some circles that the hosting of the tournament could be in danger because of the EPRU boardroom battles but SA Rugby has given the greenlight for EP to go ahead.

The EP High and Primary Schools are represented in the group of ten executive members who have urged the mother body of SA Rugby to help create stability at EP.

The validity of George Malgas’s position as the acting president of EP Rugby has divided the ranks and that is why the members have called on SA Rugby.

The executive members are Gerald Antonie (High Schools), Tony de Laura (Primary Schools), Deon Hilpert (Sedru), Peter Tee (Kariega), Phillip Bosch (Referees), Roger Serfontein (Kouga), Vuyani Persent (Kou-Kamma), Simon Bernadus (Karoo), Benjamin Bans (Sundays River Valley) and Walton de Beer (Midlands).

In a joint statement they asked SA Rugby to be observers at a meeting and to oversee proceedings as soon as possible.
