The recent high temperatures in Nelson Mandela Bay have claimed the lives of two young boys, aged 10 and 12 who went swimming yesterday, February 7 in Salt Lake.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, it is alleged that a group of 5 friends from GG Grounds, Salt Lake and Missionvale were playing in the area where they live.
” The two boys did not return home, and their concerned father continued his search for them this morning, when he established from the other children that they went swimming with the two boys.
” At about 08:00, the parents went to search for the two missing boys and found the bodies of Thandolwethu James (10) and Geovante Thorn (12) washed ashore on one of the salt pan embankments,” added Beetge.
“An autopsy will be conducted to establish the cause of their death.”
An inquest docket is under investigation.
SAPS is urging parents of young children not to allow their children to go swimming if not supervised by an adult.
