Harmony of Sight, a fundraising event hosted by the Heydeburg Philharmonic Orchestra and musicians from Gqeberha in aid of Bay Cataracts NPC, will take place on 2 March at the Nelson Mandela University South Campus Auditorium.

The event will showcase an evening of fine music and local talent, conducted by Dr Leonard Heydenrych, with David Bester as concertmaster.

Expect works from Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bach, the musicals, and many more.

Cataracts are the leading cause of preventable blindness in the world, and in Gqeberha there is a progressive increase in the number of patients in desperate need of surgery.

Bay Cataract Services, the beneficiaries of the fundraising event, was registered in 2023 to help alleviate this concern.

Bay Cataract Services is closely affiliated with Bay Eye Hospital where many of these operations take place.

Bay Cataract Services also liaise closely with the local provincial eye clinic, and it is envisioned that funds will also be allocated for assistance with contact lens placement, cornea transplants, retinal surgery, and strabismus operations (misaligned eyes).

The event will start at 19:00 and tickets are R150 per person, R100 for adults accompanying persons under 18, and R50 for children under 18.

Support of the concert will see all ticket proceeds and donations go towards restoring the sight of those unable to afford this surgery.
