Notoriously, Formula 1 racing is one
of the most unpredictable sports in the world. But that’s going to stop us from
offering a few predictions! It should be acknowledged that the author does not
have a crystal ball, nor does she take these predictions especially seriously,
unless then happen to come true.
Prediction number 1
Lando Norris will win a grand prix
this season. The young, ultra-talented Brit has been on the cusp of victory
several times now. Be it through sheer pace, masterful strategy, or a series of
unfortunate events (for others) the time has come for Lando to perform his
champagne bottle popping trick from the top step of the podium.
Prediction number 2
Alex Albon will score a podium
finish. Alright, this one of probably a bit of a stretch given that Albon only
has the Williams to work with. But stranger things have happened. At least we
know that if the opportunity should arise that Albon more than has the talent
to take it.
Prediction number 3
Alpine will finish in last place in
the constructor’s standings. The pre-season testing in Bahrain revealed the
Alpine car as not only overweight but, plainly, slow. Unless the French team
can resurrect their car through the season there is a real possibility that
they could be plumb last in the pecking order.
Prediction number 4
Charles Leclerc will break his
Monaco hoodoo. Since the Monegasque driver has been able to do well at his home
race, he hasn’t. Failures, penalties, crashes, and even a Did Not Start have
all combined to make his time on the streets of the principality miserable. But
in 2024 Leclerc will banish all the bad juju and finish, at least, in the top
three, at his home race.
Prediction number 5
The Visa Cash App RB Formula
One Team will be the surprise of the season. Formerly known as AlphaTauri, the
team will punch above their weight with a reborn Daniel Ricciardo who will
rediscover his Red Bull-era form to put real pressure on the nearly-vacant seat
at Red Bull.
Bonus prediction
And for a completely outlandish and
unfounded prediction: Mercedes will announce that they have signed Sebastian
Vettel to a race seat for 2025. Through this Vettel emulates his hero, Michael
Schumacher, by being a German world champion that has driven for both Ferrari
and Mercedes.
