Five years ago the Mati family lost all hope when their home in KwaNobuhle was severely damaged by a devastating fire, and the family was left homeless.
“Our community partner, Sinako – We Can, approached us for assistance last year,” said Sandy Abdoll, project manager at Community Chest.
Community Chest, in partnership with Ezethu Development Trust, funded most of the building materials to restore their house.
Inmates from the Department of Correctional Services provided the labour to complete the project. On February 22, the official handover of the keys was done with the Mati family.
“This is a perfect example of Community Chest being in the heart of the community,” concluded Abdoll.
